Hair Cuts That Flatter Your Face

Author:  Andy Guides Jr.

When searching for a change in your looks, there is nothing as simple as changing or updating your hairstyle. Hair cuts designed for your facial structure can make all the difference between looking Wow! or Oh no!. There are some fairly common standards to consider for your particular shaped face.

If you have an oval face, it can be the easiest of all types to flatter. A variety of options are at your disposal. Most advise keeping an even length with no layers or high volume. Wispy bangs can be quite flattering for this face. Really, almost any option will look good if you make sure to highlight your best features.

The round face is often problematic for some people, but there are options that can flatter your face. You do not want any cut that will emphasize the fullness of the face. Whether your hair is long or short, layers can help minimize the roundness. Keep the hair off the face and try to emphasize your eyes and cheekbones. Some stylists suggest keeping the hair just below the chin and including tapered ends.

With a square face you might want to consider bangs that are short and straight. Do not cut the hair too short, and consider adding length to the sides and back with layers to add volume to the face. Some of the trendy spiky cuts, or a cut with curls on the ends can be flattering for this face.

A heart shaped face needs the hair below the jaw line. No short cuts or layers are usually advised. Getting side swept bangs can also take the emphasis off the point in the chin.

A long shaped face looks best with bangs all the way to the eyebrows. Curls and side layering without much volume on top will help to shorten the face.

In addition to your facial structure, you should also consider your lifestyle when choosing a cut. Are you most often in formal situations, or is casual the way you normally live? When preparing for a special event like a wedding function or prom, consider trying a formal look. However, even informal styles can work for these occasions. Just make sure it flatters your dress style.

Your stylist can be an excellent resource when deciding on your best style. If however, you do not like any of her suggestions, do not feel obligated to go with her choice. You know what will be most comfortable for you. Consider using an Internet site that allows you to virtually look at various styles. Some have your facial structure and others allow you to download a photograph. This can help you decide if the look is appropriate for you.

Deciding the hair cuts and styles that work best for you is a personal decision. As long as you like the look, it does not matter what the experts say. If you should make a bad choice, it can always be changed when the cut grows out.
