The first thing you need to understand is that there are a lot of treatments available for re-growing your hair but you don't want to just get any of them. There are some that can cause damage to your hair or scalp so you have to be careful about what you use and you have to do your homework before making your final choice.

Hair loss happens in many different people for many different reasons. For some people the hair loss is treatable but in others it is not. Before you use any treatment that will help you re-grow your hair you need to take time to talk to your doctor.

The doctor can help you diagnose what is causing your loss of hair and this will make finding an effective treatment for it easier. The doctor may even be able to recommend a product that will effectively help you re-grow your hair.

Re-growing your hair should not be risky for anyone and that is why you want to use one of two options to ensure that it is not. One option is to use natural hair re-growth treatments that have been proven to be safe and effective.

The second option is to visit a professional and let them help you or at least recommend the right hair re-growth treatment for you. They have knowledge and experience that can be a big benefit to you and helping you deal with your problem if you just give them the chance and the time to help you.

Either option is good but be sure that the treatment that is used will incorporate ingredients that will help with re-growing your hair but also for fortifying your scalp and safely moisturizing the hair follicles; as well as one that will gently stimulate the growth without damaging or blistering your scalp.

This essential information will help you find the best hair regrowth for your particular hair loss problem. Just be sure that you take your time and find the best re-growing option for you to use so you don't end up with other problems you don't need from not being smart and making a wise choice about what to use.

What To Do About Hair Loss In Women

Author: Scott Mogul

Hair loss is in women is not as uncommon as you might think. It does not only happen to men. As a result, more and more hair loss treatments are being developed for women.
While we are used to seeing balding men, we are not accustomed to seeing balding women. Women tend to hide their hair loss under hats or wigs. Women are more self-conscious about their hair loss than most men are. Therefore it is all the more important to have effective treatment for women with hair loss.
Causes of hair loss in women
It is normal to shed some hair each day. In fact, experts say healthy people shed as many as 100 hairs each day. When a hair falls out, a new hair begins to grow from the same follicle. As some women grow older, though, new hairs may not grow. Hair usually thins gradually all over the head. Thinning hair can occur in younger women, but often begins to occur during menopause.
Hair loss in women can be caused by a number of other things. For instance, women often lose some hair during pregnancy. Hair will regrow after childbirth. Surgery may also cause hair loss due to anesthesia. Hair will regrow on its own and hair loss treatment is usually not needed.
A poor diet can lead to hair loss. Hair is made up of protein, so it is important to eat a healthy diet that includes foods with protein. Hair also needs minerals, particularly iron, in order to grow. An iron deficiency can lead to hair loss in women. Taking an iron supplement can help immensely.
Over treating hair with chemicals, such as those found in some hair dyes and permanents or straighteners can cause hair loss in women. Hair will usually regrow if you stop using these chemicals. Certain hairstyles can also lead to thinning hair. Tight buns, braids, or cornrows put extra strain on the scalp. This can actually cause scarring on the scalp, and then hair cannot grow there anymore.
Thyroid disease can cause hair loss. Medical treatment to correct the hormonal imbalance caused by the thyroid disease will allow the hair to regrow.
Certain medications will also cause hair loss in women, such as the chemotherapy sometimes used to treat cancer. If you think your medication is causing you to lose your hair, talk to your doctor. Never stop taking medication without checking with your doctor first.
Hair loss treatment
Hair loss treatment is not necessary in many cases. If hair loss is due to pregnancy, it will usually regrow following childbirth. If it is due to anesthesia used during surgery, it will usually regrow on its own. If hair loss is due to a poor diet, improving the diet is often all the treatment that is needed. If you wish to speed the natural hair regrowth process, you can try a hair loss treatment.
If hair loss is due to a medical problem, such as thyroid problems, you will need to see a doctor to get medical treatment. Your hair may then regrow on its own. If not, you may want to try some hair loss treatments.
If your hair loss is due to the normal aging process there are several hair loss treatments you can try. There are topical treatments, such as Rogaine, which you apply to your scalp. There are also oral medications, such as Propecia. Both of these have been proven to help treat hair loss in women. If you are on any medications, talk to your doctor to make sure these treatments are safe for you.

Author: Jeff Schuman

Are you losing your hair and want to find a way to not only prevent it, but to also find a solution that will help you re-grow it? Then you need to be aware of some tips that will help you determine the best hair loss regrowth option for you to use.

The following are the tips that you need to know and use if you are serious about finding the best treatment.

One: Determine what the problem is caused by - You have to understand the cause of it before you will be able to find a good solution for the problem. There are many treatments that you won't be able to use until the cause is known.

Do your own homework on this subject, but also take time to consult your doctor because they can be a big help in determining the cause.

Two: Unrealistic claims for products shouldn't be made - If a treatment sounds like it is too good to be real; then it probably is. You want to avoid any solutions that tell you that your hair can be re-grown in a few days or weeks.

This is not possible, no matter what treatment you have chosen to use. It will take time to re-grow hair without causing further damage to it with quick fix solutions.

Three: Carefully evaluate every solution - You want to really evaluate the solutions that you find to determine if is going to just make your hair look better or if it will actually re-grow it.

Four: Analyze ingredients - You have to do this because you already have a problem with losing your hair, you don't want to cause other problems by putting something in your hair that will damage it even further.

Five: Vitamins, minerals and herbs - These are all important things to find in the solution that you choose because they can help prevent loss and help with re-growth. Your hair needs all of these things in order to be healthy, so choose carefully.

A few of the things that you want to keep an eye out for include:

- B-vitamins

- Biotin

- Zinc

- Magnesium

- Saw Palmetto

These are just some of the things that are good for your hair, but they shouldn't be the only ingredients in the solution that you choose.

Now that you know these vital tips to finding the best hair loss regrowth option for you to use; all that remains is to get started with your search. Be smart and get the advice of your doctor also because between you and the doctor, a solution can be easily found.

Understanding How Hair Grows

Author: Mike N Jones

Understanding How Hair Grows - The hair system is known as the pilosebaceous system.

It consists of four main parts:

1. Follicle - the hair canal 2. Papilla - the organ that feeds hair growth 3. Sebaceous Gland - the associated oil gland 4. Hair - shaft or structure which has hardened (keratinized)

Follicle A hair follicle is an indention in the skin.

The inside of each follicle therefore is much like the skin's surface being an inward fold into the skin with a mechanism for producing a hair.

The lower portion of the follicle has an expanded shape and is called the follicle bulb where there is an area of actively dividing cells called the hair matrix.

This is the source of hair production. The follicle and the hair it produces continue through repeated cycles of growth and rest.

Papilla At the base of the follicle lies a tiny structure made of skin-related cells called the dermal papilla which feeds the newly formed hair cells from its blood supply.

These newly formed hair cells grow continuously and die continuously, forming a hardened or keratinized structure - the hair shaft.

The hair shaft continues to grow outward from the follicle base.

Sebaceous Gland The sebaceous glands or oil glands are located close beneath the surface of the skin over the entire body.

There are a large number concentrated in the facial area. The oily material secreted is called sebum.

Sebum lubricates the hair shaft and the skin.

Hair The papillary region is often referred to as the "hair root," the portion which grows below the surface of the skin which is contained within the follicle canal.

The hair shaft is the portion of the hair that grows above the skin surface.

Generally speaking, two types of hair are produced by the follicle:

vellus terminal

Vellus hair is like "peach fuzz" and it is normally found on a woman's cheek or a young child. It is soft, downy and colorless. The follicles producing vellus hair are shallow, and the hair shaft produced is relatively short. Vellus hair is normal in women and is not treated with permanent hair removal techniques such as electrolysis.

Terminal hair is deeply rooted, coarse, and colored. Terminal hair begins as the peach fuzz type but later develops color and some degree of coarseness at which point it becomes the terminal type.

Terminal hair grows from the scalp, eyebrows, underarms, pubic area, and other parts of the body.

It is terminal hair which many people regard as unwanted and therefore try to remove from certain body areas.

Hair Split End Solution

Author: Dell Henry

Have you ever brushed your hair, only to see a stringy clump of it, left dangling from your brush? Or, have you tried to create styles that didn't turn out as good as you wanted, because your split ends were obvious? Do you wear your tresses in braids, only to see the breakage at the roots? These are examples of nagging problems and frustrations that many people encounter, mostly women, when they talk about their "locks". A visit to your local salon will get your ends clipped even, but as it grows, you notice that the split ends are appearing again.

There are so many versatile "do's" today, such as long, short, permed, relaxed, doobies, curls, french, pressed, celebrity, braids, dreadlocks, straight, wrap, or blow dry, to name a few. It is vital to keep the shampoo and conditioning regimen on a regular schedule, to remove sebum, or dandruff and particle buildup that occurs. By using your fingertips to gently massage your scalp, allows your pores to experience circulation and helps loosen that buildup, prior to shampooing. You should be mindful not to scratch your scalp with your fingernails, because this tends to irritate the scalp and, on occasion, causes painful cuts.

After shampooing and conditioning your hair, you apply your favorite "over the counter" product to your head, by putting a small amount into your hands, and rubbing your palms together. Your favorite product is recommended to contain enough nutrients, to penetrate the scales of the hair shaft, so while it is still wet, it will absorb the shaft's scales, and begin to replace any damaged cells, with new healthy cells. Your new stimulated growth will start to be stronger, healthier and you will notice a difference in the way your coif looks and feels! By continuing this simple but effective regimen, you will notice that your split ends will be reduced drastically, and your beautician will notice it also. Whether your texture is thin, medium, or coarse, you can attain the results you want, gradually, by applying these "tips"!

Warning: Do NOT take a Hair Loss Test Until You've Read This...

Author:  Dave Klein
You know the scene. You've got thinning hair, and you know youre suffering from hair loss...  But what on Earth can you do about it?  So you desperately start browsing the internet for a way to fix it, before its too late... Don't you just wish there was an easy quick-fix solution?  And then you come across a website offering... ...hair loss analysis tests...  Sound familiar? "Just send some strands of your thinning hair and we'll tell you exactly what type of hair loss you are suffering from, and then we'll recommend hair loss products to fight it"?  Of course they will. Why wouldn't they? In fact, some companies who manufacture their own hair loss products even offer to do the test for free. Wow! What a bargain! What do you think their answer will be, once they've "analyzed" your hair? How many emails do you think they write saying "I'm sorry. Extensive analysis of your thinning hair indicates that our product will not help you"?  Uh, No. They will tell you that your hair loss is the exact type that their product will "cure". And without it, you've got no hope...  Now please don't get me wrong...  There are some VERY valuable hair loss analysis tests. But chances, when you stumble across a hair loss test on the internet, its not one of the good ones... More than likely, you'll come across one of the popular tests. There's a huge difference between what's popular, and what's good...  But then again, most people never manage to do anything to help their baldness problem...  So how do you find the good tests?  Well, there are a few different types, and you have to do your research... In the meantime, be wary of any company that offers you a FREE hair-loss test...

Keep the Hair You Have by Lowering DHT Levels!

Author: Steven A Johnson

Losing hair is normal; it is part of the hair growth cycle. The growth phase lasts two to six years, and roughly 90% of the tresses on your head are in this phase. The other 10% of your locks are in a dormant phase that can last from two to six months. After the dormant phase comes to an end, the strands are then discarded.

The follicles then begin to grow new locks, during an average growth cycle much hair is shed or discarded. It is quite normal to loose fifty to one-hundred hairs everyday! This is no reason to be alarmed.

When thinning of your locks becomes noticeable, this is an indication of the beginnings of hair loss or balding. As it stands hair loss and balding are not life threatening conditions, however, many people experience emotional distress.

The most common causes of loss of locks are aging, heredity, thyroid imbalance, eating disorders, illness, pregnancy, or menopause, and prescription medications. Most people are familiar with the most common cause of hair loss, which is a hereditary condition. This is called androgenetic alopecia, and it is passed on through genetics.

Androgenetic alopecia occurs when follicles begin to shrink gradually over time, causing a shortening of the life cycle it goes through. As a result of the growth phase of the hair, the newer growth is shorter and thinner. This shortening and thinning of tresses continues until hair growth stops entirely. The important thing to remember is that thinning conditions are treatable! The idea is to keep the hair you have and strengthen the existing follicle.

One of the major hormones that cause loss of locks in men and women is DHT. DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone. DHT is caused by a reaction between the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase (which is found in the skin and scalp) and the hormone testosterone. DHT related balding is caused when DHT binds to receptor sites on the scalp and follicles. This binding of chemicals causes interruption and interaction of the normal chain of events that regulates normal, healthy, hair growth.

If this sounds complicated, lets put it a way that everyone can understand, DHT balding occurs when DHT takes control of the receptor cell. The receptor cell is located on the follicle which binds to DHT. When this bonding happens, false signals are sent to the cells whose job it is to maintain proper hair growth. The place that men lose their mane first is the temporal area; following is loss in the crown, and lastly, the top of the scalp. The concentration of sweat glands located in these regions cause heavy accumulation of DHT. In womens loss of their mane, it happens differently, they will usually experience diffusion of hair evenly throughout their scalp.

There are many procedures available to treat balding today. One of the keys to preventing hair loss is a healthy daily diet. A diet low in fat and high in fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables can have a major effect on stopping genetic and age related hair loss. In Asia where daily diets consist of vegetables, balding rarely occurs. Botanical nutrients may keep hair follicles from going dormant permanently.

Perhaps the easiest way to stop it is to notice the early stages of follicle dormancy. By taking action to treat thinning before balding occurs, you can strengthen the follicles to prevent further destruction by DHT. One way to treat thinning is by taking supplements that contain ingredients such as Saw Palmetto and Green Tea Extract. These all natural ingredients have been found to help maintain hair follicle health. One product that is designed to help block DHT is Hair RX, which contains a balanced blend of Saw Palmetto along with other important herbs to help you keep the hair you have and strengthen your follicles from the inside out!

How To Make Thinning Hair Lush and Thick

Author: Michael Barrows

Even people with thinning hair dream of having lush, thick and healthy locks to set off their complete look. For most people with thinning hair, though, all of their styling endeavors are met with frustration and a resulting style that falls short of the image that they had envisioned.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Thinning hair does not sentence you to a life of dull and unstylish tresses. In fact, there are several things that you can do to make your thinning hair look stunning. And the best part is that these thinning hair options won't take a great deal of your time or money either.  The first thing that you need to do to make your thinning hair look fabulous is to find the right stylist. Search for a stylist who has other clients with thinning hair and is fluent in all of the right styles and techniques to both protect thinning hair and make it look thicker than it really is. You can do this by asking for referrals from friends who also have thinning hair but always seem to look like they have just left the salon.  Once you have found the right stylist, together you can begin to examine your options for making your thinning hair appear thick again. Since there are many different ways to thicken up your locks, it is very important for you and your stylist to talk about each thinning hair option together so that you pick the right techniques that are perfect for you and your thinning hair.  Here are just a few of the ways that you can make your thinning hair appear lush and thick:  " Cut and texture. One of the best ways to conceal your thinning hair is to find a cut that adds a lot of texture and movement to your style while at the same time makes your hair appear thicker. Since long hair tends to draw the eye to the reality of thinning hair, shorter hairstyles are often your better bet. Choose styles with a lot of layers and textures ends that will create movement and interest to your thinning hair style. Adding texture through soft curl can also be a great way to make your thinning hair look its best.  " Color. Not only does color add more body and thickness to your thinning hair, it can also be used to draw the eye away from particularly thin spots. Using a combination of low-lights, high-lights and color accents, your stylist can do wonders for your thinning hair with a color brush.  " Products. There are a wide variety of products on the market that can be used to conceal thinning hair. Products such as thickening shampoos and conditioners can do a lot for thinning hair. Also be conscious of what types of styling products that you use on your thinning hair. Use lighter products such as mousses and pomades over heavy products like gel and spritzs.  As you can see, none of these thinning hair remedies are complicated or expensive. Simply by learning how to best style your thinning hair and learning to use the right products can do a great deal to make your hair look like it is both chic and thick.

How To Use Pictures Of Hair Styles To Find Your New Look

Author: Michael Barrows Most people choose their new hair style by looking at a picture of a hair style or browsing hair style photos. This can be a great way to find the perfect look, but there are some guidelines that you should keep in mind when looking at pictures of hair styles. Doing so can help you avoid hair disasters and guarantee that you come out looking like your chosen hairstyle picture.  You can find pictures of hair styles in style books and portfolios found at most salons, in fashion magazines, and in online hair style photo galleries. All of these ways can give you numerous ideas and a picture of hair style that you can carry with you to discuss your new style with your beautician. By seeing a picture of hair style, both you and your stylist can have a realistic expectation of what your new style will look like and how to achieve it.  Have you ever found the perfect hairstyle picture only to come out of the salon looking nothing like the woman in the picture? Most blame it on their stylist. While part of the blame can be put on the stylist for not pointing out your picture of hair style blunder, most often the blame lies with choosing the wrong hairstyle picture to compliment your face shape and hair texture.  A picture of hair style is a representation of what the woman in the hair style photo looks like with a particular style. You can not realistically expect to look like the picture of a hair style because you are not that woman; your hair and structure are different. But you can selectively choose your pictures of hair styles and eliminate the ones that would be disastrous for you by following a few pointers.  1. When browsing through pictures of hair styles, be sure to pay extra attention to the type and texture of hair that the lady in the hairstyle picture has. Is her hair coarse, thin, wavy, or straight? Try to find pictures of hair styles with hair types that closely resemble your own. Keep in mind that a picture of a hair style may look great with a particular model because she has thick and naturally curly hair, but the same hair style may not look so great on someone with thin, limp hair.  2. Often, pictures of hair styles are taken of models with perfect bone structures. It is very rare that you find a picture of hair style with a model trying to conceal a too-high hair line, prominent nose or under-developed chin. If you have features that you wish to highlight or diminish, pay special attention to the style in the picture of hair style. Would the style in the picture of hair style compliment your features or take away from them?  3. Use an interactive online photo gallery. You can upload your photo and use it to test how you might look with lots of different hair style photos. This is a great way to "try before you buy" to avoid expensive mistakes when you go to the salon. For a review of the best interactive online photo galleries, go to http://www.great-hairstyles.com/hair-article-resources.html.  Once you find a few hair style photos that you think are perfect for you, ask your stylist for her opinion on your chosen pictures of hair styles. He or she will be able to tell you without a doubt whether or not your selected hair style will be picture perfect for you.

How to Fix Common Hair Problems

Author: Brent McNutt

Hair problems can be a drag and ruin an otherwise great day. We all encounter hair problems at one point or another, luckily there are a number of ways we can eliminate or prevent these common hair nuisance. Below are some tips for fixing common hair problems.

Dandruff

Dandruff can be very annoying not to mention embarrassing. Dandruff is flakes of dead skin that disperses and falls off from the hair, making it noticeable or visible in a person's hair or on clothing. While the cause of dandruff is unknown, recent studies have suggested that it is caused by a type of fungus. While dandruff is not dangerous or contagious, it can be itchy and uncomfortable. To reduce dandruff flakes, you can use shampoos that are specially formulated to get rid of dandruff. Most of these shampoos contain zinc, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide or tars. When shampooing your hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo, massage your scalp gently for at least five minutes. Loosen the flakes with your fingers, but make sure to never scratch your scalp with your nails. Rinse your hair thoroughly after washing. If there is no over-the-counter anti-dandruff shampoo that works for you, you should see a doctor or hair specialist in urbane scrubs so that he or she can prescribe a liquid or lotion for your scalp.

Hair breakage

Hair strands can break when points in the hair weaken or thicken. Breakage can happen at any point of the hair, at the middle, near the scalp, or at the ends of the air. When hair breaks at the end, it is called split ends; the hair splits and can travel up to the shaft of the hair. Hair breakage is typically caused by the improper use of chemical hair treatments and the use of shampoos that contain strong chemicals. Using organic shampoo with organic and gentle ingredients can lessen hair breakage. Other major causes of breakage also include combing the hair too frequently or brushing and detangling the hair improperly. Using a wide-tooth comb and gently brushing the hair will help avoid breakage. Tight buns, braids, hair extensions, and other such elaborate hair styles can also cause the hair to break. Pulling it out on your own or leaving the hairstyle too long can cause hair and scalp damage or hair loss. In some cases, dry and brittle hair as well as hair loss can be a sign of poor nutrition or a medical condition such as hypothyroidism. Eat nutritious food packed with vitamins, minerals and proteins. If your hair is still breaking even if you take good care of it and eat healthy, you should see a doctor to determine if it is caused by a medical condition.

If your hair is breaking even though you don't treat it with chemicals or other styling products, see a doctor.

Hair Loss

We all lose some of our hair on a daily basis, typically when we shower or sleep. It is common to lose about 100 strands of hair a day; old hair fall out to be replaced with new and healthier hair. However, some people experience abnormal hair loss that thins the hair at a faster rate, which cannot be replaced naturally. This can caused baldness or bald patches. Abnormal hair loss, or alopecia, can be temporary or permanent. Some are caused by poor nutrition, a medical condition or is hereditary. You should consult your doctor if you are experiencing alopecia to determine its cause and if it can be treated.

Anti Aging Foods

Author: David Cowley

I am a firm believer that the first and foremost of any anti aging regiment should be working from the insides out. Researchers in search for the fountain of youth keep coming back to one fact: you are what you eat. What you eat has a tremendous impact not only on your health but also on your life span. Why would you put a nice fresh coat of paint on your house if it is infested with termites? It may look good for a short time but if the underlying foundation will not support it then it will not last long.

Anti-aging foods are known to give you better endurance, prolong your lifespan, obtain a better quality of sleep, feel vital and energetic, and they can promote a sense of calmness and well being. You get quite a few advantages when you consume anti-aging foods, and you should remember that anti-aging is not an illness in fact many healthcare professionals do not consider the aging process natural and than it can be avoided.

Anti aging foods can reduce the effects of aging and in some cases ever reverse the damaged to your body caused by a stressful life style. Anti-aging foods can help all of the bodies' functions by giving blood formation a boost and helping to rebuild damaged tissues.

Some of the more notable anti-aging foods are fish, avocado, berries, carrots, nuts, whole meal pasta as well as brown rice, and finally, drinking plenty of water to detoxify as well as keep the skin smooth. Including these anti-aging foods in your diet on a regular basis will soon show positive results.

Fish oil contains omega 3 and fatty acids, which have been shown to stimulate the brain and increase memory and mental awareness.

Avocado oil can also be used as a skin moisturizer. Keeping your skin properly moisturized is the best way to make sure it does not age prematurely.

Blueberries and Blackberries contain a large quantity of antioxidants, which may help reduce the effect age related memory problems. They contain a chemical called anthocyanins which are very powerful antioxidants.

Vitamin A deficiency may increase the risk of cancers of the lung, larynx, bladder, esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum and prostate. Carrots are a good source of natural Vitamin A.

Create The Hair Of Your Dreams

Author: Jonathon Hardcastle

One of the most important appearance elements of our image is our hair. Surrounding our face, hair grow from short to long and need our constant attention in order to help us look out best. Whether you are a man or a woman, the health of your hair has been drawn other people's attention and has made you feel proud of your overall looks; at least from time to time.

But, with a million of different hairstyles out there, people always end up confused at their hairstylist's chair, looking stressed on the next feature they will add to their hairstyle. Short, curly, long, wavy, frizzy, layered, or braided, hairstyles can alter our mood and our confidence levels. This part of our looks can become as distinctive as we want and represent our mood, our views, or the way we think for ourselves.

Believe it or not, a hairstyle can help to accentuate or draw away attention from certain facial characteristics. Depending on our face's bone structure, the right type of haircut can illustrate our best features and help us feel confident with our looks. For example, when a face is too round hairstylists will probably advice the customer to put a side part in the hair in order to lengthen the image of the face. For thin faces, curls or fullness at the sides will create the necessary illusion. If a nose is proportionately larger than the rest of the face's characteristics, a full hairstyle or upswept crown will make the nose less noticeable. If the problem is that of a high forehead, a horizontal line of full bangs can cover the "extra" forehead and thus balancing the face.

But apart from having the proper hairstyle, it is essential to take good care of the hair so as to continue enjoying their glow and improve their texture. Smoke, air-conditioning, heaters, extra moisture, or dry climates, can all damage the way hair behaves and reduce their overall quality. Thus, maintaining a healthy-looking hairstyle is important and not that difficult after all. One needs only to know what to do and it is easy to create the hairstyle of his or her dreams.

First of all, look for essential oils, herbs and vegetable oils in your hair care products. Essential oils such as rosemary, ylang-ylang and West Indian bay stimulate hair growth. Lavender and tea tree and naturally antiseptic and help to fight dandruff. Vegetable oils such as soybean oil, safflower oil and corn oil are moisturizing and conditioning. Try to avoid shampoos that contain sodium laurel sulfate, or sodium laureth sulfate, as these chemicals are synthetic detergents that are used in dishwashing liquid and other cleansers. They are valued because they lather well, but they are very harsh and can dry out your hair. Shampoos with decyl glucose, or decyl glucoside, are much gentler to your hair and scalp. From time to time, give yourself a warm oil treatment to deep condition your hair.

The heated oil penetrates the hair shaft making it more flexible and adding shine; this technique can also help dry and long hair from developing spit ends. Remember to eat right and receive all the necessary vitamins and minerals that will help your hair grow and be conditioned. Vitamin E, B and C are essential for good quality hair.
Furthermore, those with extra curly hair have to avoid brushing them. A wide toothed comb or your own fingers can do the work. In addition, avoid sleeping while wearing your hair accessories, as this can lead to hair damage. While shampooing your hair, remember to massage your scalp, as this increases the blood circulation in the area and helps hair grow faster. Finally, every six to eight weeks remember to give your hair a trim and get rid of those ugly looking damaged ends.

Have We Won The Fight Against Hair Loss?

Author:  William Cortes   The thought of going bald has always been a private nightmare for most men. We dare not think of it. Maybe just the thought would cause our hair follicles to shrivel up and die.  It's the 21st century and we're no closer to defeating the common cold much less hair loss. Or are we closer? Let's take a look at the facts first.  1. If you're going bald there's a 95% chance it's hereditary. 2. Minoxidil and Propecia are the only FDA approved drugs to treat hair loss. 3. Neither Minoxidil or Propecia is 100% guaranteed to work. 4. By doing nothing your 100% guaranteed to continue losing hair. Those are some pretty harsh realities. I rather get the bad news outta the way first. Since DHT is responsible for causing hair loss we'll look at ways to slow down it's production.  NATURAL TREATMENTS:  A. Green Tea - Thought to effect the 5a-reductase type I enzyme, which converts testosterone to DHT.  B. Flax Seed Lignans - Is suggested to have beneficial effects on hair loss.  C. Saw Palmetto (herb) Effective at blocking the formation of DHT and appears to block the androgen receptors which are found on the hair follicles. It blocks Type 1 and Type 2 forms of 5 alpha-reductase and has shown to be more potent than Finasteride.  D. Zinc - Recent studies have shown that certain formulations of topical Zinc can inhibit DHT in the skin, leading to reduction of oil and possibly helping hair regrow. Do NOT overdose. Doing so can accelerate or cause hair loss. E. Vitamin B6 - Combined with Zinc, Vitamin B6 was markedly able to inhibit the conversion of Testosterone to DHT in the skin. There are now studies that show that specific types of B6 alone will inhibit DHT creation and androgen receptor activity. One important factor is the source of B6 to use. Some sources actually INCREASE creation of DHT. If you don't know what form of B6 you're getting, it may be best to leave it alone. It is important to get enough though, because according to the same studies, a deficiency of B6 will increase DHT creation as well.  F. Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids - Contain anti-inflammatory properties that are useful in maintaining healthy hair. By increasing these levels of essential fatty acids one can slow down hair loss.  G. Horsetail (herb) - Rich in amino acids, silica, and phytosterols, which condition & strengthen hair as well as reduce buildup of oils in the scalp.  H. Ginger (herb) - Ginger has circulatory agents that help stimulate the hair follicle's growth cycle. Additionally Ginger is rich in fatty acids which are recommended for hair loss, and the thinning of the hair shaft. I. Rosemary (herb) - Rosemary has been shown to promote increased circulation as well as help remove dandruff and sebum accumulations on the scalp.  J. Sage tea (herb) - Contains potent antiseptic and astringent components makes it a useful conditioner for the hair. Additionally, it thickens and strengthens compromised hair shafts.  K. Capsicum (herb) Stimulates hair growth by 50% and increases blood flow to the scalp as well as histamine release to stimulate cell division. It is excellent at accelerating new hair growth.  L. Ginger - Ginger has circulatory agents that help stimulate the hair follicle's growth cycle. Additionally Ginger is rich in fatty acids which are recommended for hair loss, and the thinning of the hair shaft.  Be aware that there is no scientific proof that these foods will stop hair loss. But they can help to maintain what you have now and slow down your hair loss. Also using more than the recommended daily dose of these foods may be counter productive. The key here is the amount consumed. Almost anything is toxic if consumed in large doses. including salt and even water! As long as you follow the recommended dosage by the manufacturer or retailer, and the recommended doses are not exceeded by combining too many different supplements, then the chance of toxicity will not be a factor.  Maybe in our lifetime science will find a cure for hair loss. Hair loss is not a crippling disease. It's a lifestyle. If you're comfortable with the way you look then you've won. If on the other hand it's affecting you emotionally that you need to use medication, then try different hair loss treatments and see what works for you. Always consult your doctor about any treatments you're interested in. And take the time to look for any side effects on the product you're looking to purchase.

Hair Care Home Remedies

Author:  Elizabeth Kiely

Save money and give yourself a break from the chemicals found in most hair care products by using the following natural home remedies.

Tame your frizzy hair by rubbing coconut oil into your hands and applying sparingly onto your hair. You don't want to overdo it - too much will make your hair look greasy. Shampooing your hair less frequently also helps with the frizzies. Excess shampooing strips natural oils from the hair.  Rinse your hair with one tablespoon baking soda mixed with one cup of water to get rid of shampoo build-up and styling residues.  Rinsing your hair with one juiced lemon and one cup of water is said to bring life and shine back to dull hair.  1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with two cups of water will give your hair shine and bounce.  Add essential oil of ylang ylang to your shampoo, conditioner and styling agents as a hair rejuvenator.  Ylang ylang and rosemary essential oils are also believed to stimulate hair growth. Drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables and getting plenty of rest is probably the best way to achieving healthy hair.  What goes into your body is reflective on the outside including your hair.
