Self Acceptance - Lessons From My Hair Affair

Author: Lee Mellott

For our diet and, indeed, in every aspect of our lives, we must remember to relax from the demands of the unrealistic ideal. For those trying to lose weight, you cannot be the Barbie. For those lifting weights, you cannot be the Governor of California. Accepting this principle first, can give you the peace of mind to love what you do have, lower frustration, and actually make weight loss easier in the long run!  A few years ago while driving to the drugstore I watched a family walk across the street. There was a woman who appeared to be in her 70's with a thick mass of black hair flowing down her back. Next to her was another woman 40ish with a thick mass of black hair flowing down her back. And walking with them, a teen with a thick mass of black hair flowing down her back, and alongside her was a girl about six years old with a thick mass of black hair flowing down her back.  The teen was pushing a pram. I craned my neck and observed a tiny baby tucked inside no there was no flowing mass of black hair. But I could see little black tufts starting up and I was willing to bet what that would look like in the future.  I drove on to the drugstore feeling a bit gloomy. When I got to the store, I saw rows of hair beautification products. Products to pump up the volume, smooth, curl, add bounce. I had tried many of them in the past with maybe some improvement but not much. What I really needed was more hair. If any of those ladies walking would give me just a little bit of their hair I would really benefit and I doubt if they would miss it. I have baby fine blond hair. The kind that wilts in the heat, hangs limply in the rain and loses its style quickly.  Later that week, I happened to catch the talk show Maury. Women were on the show complaining about their hair. One young African American lady caught my attention. About 14 years old, she had wiry black hair. It sprouted out from her head and went all over the place. She cried as she told Maury that she had not had a comb in her hair in years because it got all tangled. I was shocked as she told Maury that insects landed in her hair and stayed there. And I thought I had problem hair.  After watching the show, I started thinking about my hair and instead of viewing it as a problem I decided to focus on the assets. Ok my hair was very fine ... but that meant a couple minutes with the blow dryer was all it took to dry it. My hair grew very slowly ... but that meant I saved money when I got highlights because it took them forever to grow out. Also I would never have to pay for an "UPDO" because there was not enough hair to do up!  I thought about my struggle to have long hair. My dream hair was a long, shiny mane. I had given that idea up long ago and decided to settle for a chin length bob. But that wasn't working out either. My hair looked flat and drab.  It was the same with my fingernails. I wanted medium length nails but nail products and calcium weren't producing results. Right then and there I decided to ACCEPT what I had and work with it to make life SIMPLE and ENJOYABLE. Instead of fighting my genetic code I would work with it.  Next stop the hairdresser. I had my hair cut off to a very simple bob that hit just below the ear. On "good hair days" I could wear it over the ear. And on bad ones or when I got caught in the rain, I could slick it back behind the ear. Highlights to give it body and more shine were added and I purchased products that while they don't work miracles they were suitable for my hair.  Next I threw out all my nail hardeners. They might work for other people but they weren't working for me. I filed my nails down to a simple, blunt length. I purchased a very good file and a chamois buffer. If I paint them I will use clear or a pale pink. But usually they are just buffed to a healthy glow. No more struggle with the nails. Wow! It's amazing how good it feels and how much simpler our lives become when we accept what we have and work it to our advantage. Think about what you have, that you struggle to change. Is it something you can change or is it something that you can't. Life is so much easier when you work with what you have.  Indeed, no one is going to mistake me for the Breck Girl or the lady in the Herbal Essence Shampoo commercial. But that's ok because I enjoy my hair and nails now and that's what matters!

Get Big Hair Celebrity Style!

Author: Charlotte Bleasdale

For those feeling enslaved to their hair straighteners the end is in sight; that’s right, big hair is back! With celebrities like Beyonce and Cheryl Cole showcasing big and bouncy locks, high volume hair is now definitely back in style. It’s a glamorous look that’s sure to make you feel fabulous and feminine and perfect for a night out.

With the surge in popularity of blow-dry bars, getting the big haired look can be costly but this need not be the case. Any woman with bob length hair or longer can achieve a volumised look at home and it’s surprisingly easy. Just follow our step-by-step guide.

1.  First, wash your hair with volumising shampoo and conditioner.

2.  Then apply volumising spray to your damp hair, particularly at the roots.

3.  Apply mousse to the roots of your hair

4.  Dry your hair until it’s mostly but not quite dry, directing the air mostly at the roots at of your hair. Use a diffuser if you have one, using a circular motion to create extra volume.

5.  When your hair is about 80% style and finish drying your hair using a large, round-barrelled hairbrush lifting and rolling the hair over the top of the barrel. Your style will be most effective if you go for a side parting as this allows for a nice big bouffant!

6.  Now back comb your hair, or for a really full look, experiment with hair extensions and hair pieces. Or try a bump shaped hair insert for added height.

7.  Fix your fabulous new do in place with plenty of hairspray and you’re good to go!

For really big and bouncy hair, many celebrities also like to add a gentle curl to their hair too. There are two easy ways to do this.

Heated rollers

Heated rollers give you a double-whammy of height around your crown and gently tumbling waves. Choose large rollers for loose curls.  This look is not about tight ringlets. Follow the directions that come with your rollers. You’ll need to wind each roller so that the hair wraps around it up to your scalp. Roll so that the hair from your roots goes over the top of the roller. If you do it the other way you won’t get that all important body at the crown. Do this in sections for your whole head and leave on as directed by your instructions. To remove the rollers, let them drop out rather than pulling them. Then gently loosen and separate the curls with your fingers for beautifully bouncy tresses.

Curling tongs

Curling tongs are another great way to give your hair fabulous volume. Choose large barrelled tongs or use the wider end of a cone shaped barrel. Roll the hair around the wand the same way you would with the rollers, so that the hair from the roots ends up going up and over the barrel rather than under. Repeat for as much of your head as you wish. It’s not necessary to do the whole head, a few evenly spaced wavy sections are enough to lift your whole look. Then you’ll need to gently pull out any tight curls with your fingers to loosen them a little and combine them with the rest of your hair. Finish with hairspray so that the curls don’t drop out; you don’t want your big hair to fall flat!

Short haircuts are very useful. It makes you look younger and look more intelligent. Do not be surprised by the comment that people thinking your sister is older than you and addressing you the younger one. Short hair cut makes your personality cute and sweet. Actually short hair is timeless. It can be old. As for instance bob cut which is seen as Cleopatra’s hair cut. It can be any modern variations like Keira’s hairstyle or Katie Holmes’ short haircut. But when you will apply this hair cut be careful about the fact that the cut should match your face cutting, body structure and life style. Unless your hair cut will be all mess.

Your ideal haircut will be the very cut that makes you very comfortable and the same time beautiful and happy. You would not regret over your hairstyle and will be happy each time you will look yourself in the mirror. For career oriented women and busy corporate women this cut is very handy and easy to handle. You will be feeling more in control and your tresses will also be under your control. It is strong as well as feminine. so the women who want to project a strong and at the same time a soft native look they must try short hair cut at least for one time.

Short hair cut is time saving and money saving too. If you have hardly any time to spend for your hair care then switch to short hair cut. But be care choosing a short hairstyle because it should match your personality, life style, hair thickness, hair texture and body shape. So please consult your hairdresser and pick the right one. One thing is also very important to look at. That is what type of hairdo you see in catalogue or in any book is a result of enormous effort of a prominent fashion hair stylist. It is therefore not necessary that you will also get that exact look like the very model flaunting the hair cut, which you want to have. So do not choose something that your stylist is not very sure about that. Pick a simple but happening cut, which is your stylist’s also favorite cut.

Now we will discuss the 10things, which are very important to have a short haircut. Your natural long hair will hide the greasiness of your scalp. But your short hair will not hide anything. So, daily shampooing is very important. To avoid limp and oily hair always wash your hair.

If you want your short hair looks more glossy and extra shiny then use a cream or a gel or spray to make your hair ultra shiny and silky. You can add some natural home ingredients to have a shiny hair. Shiny heavy hair looks really very good. Cut your hair after every 4to 6 weeks. Because you want to keep your short hairstyle in a regular basis then you have to get trimmed regularly. Your hairstyle will be ruined if you ignore this.

Hair accessories are not for only long hair. The intelligent use of hair accessories for short hair can make your style. Hair bands, wraps, and small barrettes look great on short hair.

Oiling Your Long Hair

Author: Stephanie Foster

One of the problems with long hair is how hard it is for your hair's natural oils to get all the way down to the ends. You can help your hair feel great with a good conditioner, but oil can be really helpful.

My personal preference is to use jojoba oil. I buy it at my local natural foods store. I like to scent it with a bit of lavender oil too, since I love that scent.

It takes very, very little oil to do the job. My hair copes pretty well with being long, so I find I do best by only oiling the last few inches. If I do much more, my hair shortly looks oily, and that's not the look I'm after.

I added the lavender oil to the jojoba before using it, right in the bottle.

The thing to remember is that you hardly need any oil at all. Put a drop or two in your palm, rub your hands together and stroke your hair smoothly between your hands. Just on the ends, as I said before. It really doesn't take a lot.

If you need extra help for all your hair, try oiling the entire length of your hair before bed, and wash it out in the morning. This will give the oil time to soak in.

Of course, jojoba isn't the only oil that works well. Coconut oil is quite popular, although it has a stronger scent. Some use olive oil straight from the kitchen cabinet. If you aren't sure about putting oil in your hair, you can start with that, but a lighter oil really is better in the long run.

What does the oil do for you? It keeps your hair moist and flexible, so it doesn't break so easily. If you want your hair to grow long, that's vital.

If you do choose add a scent to your oil, make sure it is one that is safe for your hair. Some essential oils are really not good for your hair.

Oiling your long hair is one of those things where you'll feel the difference in the texture of your hair quickly, but it will take time to see a difference in how long it grows. After all, it takes a long time for hair to grow. But if you're serious about having really long hair, it's an easy step to add to your routine.

How to Make Your Own Hair Treatments From Kitchen Ingredients

 Author: Brent McNutt

You don't have to buy expensive hair products to achieve a beautiful and healthy hair. Some of the best ingredients for your hair are found in your own kitchen. A lot of the upscale hair products available in hair boutiques are made with natural ingredients such as avocado, olive oil, berries, citrus fruits, and green tea, all available in food sections in supermarkets for a fraction of the price of hair products. Making your own homemade hair products is not only cheap, but healthier and more nutritious than commercially available products made in the lab, which are usually mixed with preservatives and chemicals! Making your own hair care products will ensure it is made from 100% pure and natural ingredients.

Fruity hair mask

Treat your hair once a week or every two weeks with a luxurious hair mask using strawberry or avocado. This will keep your hair shiny and revitalized. Strawberries contain acids that will leave the hair glossy and conditioned. To make a strawberry hair mask, mash eight strawberries and mix in a tablespoon of mayonnaise. On damp or washed hair, massage the mix in your scalp up to the tips of your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap and a warm towel on top and leave it on for 10 minutes. Wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner. Avocado fruit is another hair shine solution that you can use. Mash an avocado with a teaspoon of baking powder and a tablespoon of olive oil. Massage the mixture on your scalp and hair, from roots to tips. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and wash it thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.

Repairing dry hair

Cry hair can be easily repaired by massaging your scalp and hair from the roots to the tips, with two drops of safflower oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil or olive oil. This will replenish your hair's lost moisture and repair dry and damaged hair.

Remedying oily hair

A quick remedy to oily hair is talcum powder. Apply the talcum powder on the roots of your hair. Hair should be damp and towel-dried before applying. Let the powder sit on your hair for a few minutes before washing it out.

Homemade anti-dandruff solution

To cure or reduce dandruff flakes, pour vinegar on your scalp and massage your scalp gently, taking care not to scratch with your nails. Instead, use the tips of your fingers to loosen the flakes. Leave your scalp and hair to dry for a few minutes and wash your hair and scalp with shampoo and conditioner. Do this once a day until the flakes disappear.

All day hairspray

Hair can get dull and frizzy during the course of the day or under the hot sun. To keep your hair revitalized and manageable, you can make your own hairspray using lemon or orange. Chop one lemon or orange fruit and place it in a cup adding two cups water. Bring the solution to a boil until half of the water evaporates. Let it cool and strain and put the solution in a spray bottle. Store the hairspray in a refrigerator and bring with you as an all-day hair spray that will not damage your hair.

Women Hair Loss: Causes And Prevention

Author: Jeanette Pollock

No one dreams of getting bold. For women who are very vain, hair loss is one thing that will totally freak them out. Hair loss does not choose a specific gender or age. It may come during the early phase of one's life or could also be a little later. But then hair loss on men is more common than it is with women. Only that women recognize hair loss at once because of their routinely regimens.

Women hair loss is a big problem. Generally, women treat their hair as their crowning glory. What will happen if they suffer from hair loss? The hair will obviously lose its radiance and striking effect. And this fact makes women terribly worried. Will it ever grow back? Will my hair be the same again? Is there a treatment for women hair loss? Now these are just among the millions of questions asked by women who go through the agony of hair loss.

Women hair loss particularly affects the psychological well-being of women. Reports prove how women moving around the corporate world have to quit their jobs because they discovered that they are getting bald for no apparent reason. The socialization process of women also gets affected. Women hair loss prompts them to withdraw from the usual activities which they typically take part in. In more ways than one, their interaction with other people gets limited.

The Main Causes of Hair Loss

Why does women hair loss come into the picture? What causes women hair loss? No matter what drives women hair loss to spread its lunacy, the matter is nonetheless a major concern to all. There are various factors that lead to hair loss but the thing that must be borne in mind is that there is always a solution to it if only the right medication will be applied.

The recorded factors that cause hair loss are skin disorders, recommended drugs and therapies, stress, pregnancy, chemotherapy, hereditary predisposition, bacterial infection, radiation, and extreme androgen production. In most cases, only one of these factors cause the hair loss but there is also the possibility that these factors are combined that hence bring about a greater effect of hair loss.

As in the case of women hair loss, specialists emphasize that menopause is also another factor to be looked into. It is in this phase that women experience a decrease in hormonal production so the body goes through a sudden change.

The Prevention of Women Hair Loss

Can women hair loss be prevented? Specialists have answers to this dilemma. Since the women are very much particular with how they look, they are expected to attend more to the prevention of women hair loss. Experts say that a healthy diet is likely to increase the possibility of preventing women hair loss especially by taking in foods filled with proteins. Do not use unnecessary drugs. Ensure proper hygiene. Do away with hormonal drug therapies. A good exercise will help eliminate too much stress too. Another effective medium is the use of natural therapy. It points to the use of the therapeutic herbs like the sage which is a good medication for feeble hair, the rosemary which can boost dark hair, the chamomile that is able to promote a healthy growth for the hair, and the burdock root which aids in stopping falling hair. An important advice though is to make use of the natural cure only as a supplement. The specialists' prescribed medication is still the most effective.

Before you use any method for re-growing your hair you need to know some important information about it.

The first thing you need to understand is that there are a lot of treatments available for re-growing your hair but you don't want to just get any of them. There are some that can cause damage to your hair or scalp so you have to be careful about what you use and you have to do your homework before making your final choice.

Hair loss happens in many different people for many different reasons. For some people the hair loss is treatable but in others it is not. Before you use any treatment that will help you re-grow your hair you need to take time to talk to your doctor.

The doctor can help you diagnose what is causing your loss of hair and this will make finding an effective treatment for it easier. The doctor may even be able to recommend a product that will effectively help you re-grow your hair.

Re-growing your hair should not be risky for anyone and that is why you want to use one of two options to ensure that it is not. One option is to use natural hair re-growth treatments that have been proven to be safe and effective.

The second option is to visit a professional and let them help you or at least recommend the right hair re-growth treatment for you. They have knowledge and experience that can be a big benefit to you and helping you deal with your problem if you just give them the chance and the time to help you.

Either option is good but be sure that the treatment that is used will incorporate ingredients that will help with re-growing your hair but also for fortifying your scalp and safely moisturizing the hair follicles; as well as one that will gently stimulate the growth without damaging or blistering your scalp.

This essential information will help you find the best hair regrowth for your particular hair loss problem. What To Do About Hair Loss In Women

Author: Scott Mogul

Hair loss is in women is not as uncommon as you might think. It does not only happen to men. As a result, more and more hair loss treatments are being developed for women.
While we are used to seeing balding men, we are not accustomed to seeing balding women. Women tend to hide their hair loss under hats or wigs. Women are more self-conscious about their hair loss than most men are. Therefore it is all the more important to have effective treatment for women with hair loss.
Causes of hair loss in women
It is normal to shed some hair each day. In fact, experts say healthy people shed as many as 100 hairs each day. When a hair falls out, a new hair begins to grow from the same follicle. As some women grow older, though, new hairs may not grow. Hair usually thins gradually all over the head. Thinning hair can occur in younger women, but often begins to occur during menopause.
Hair loss in women can be caused by a number of other things. For instance, women often lose some hair during pregnancy. Hair will regrow after childbirth. Surgery may also cause hair loss due to anesthesia. Hair will regrow on its own and hair loss treatment is usually not needed.
A poor diet can lead to hair loss. Hair is made up of protein, so it is important to eat a healthy diet that includes foods with protein. Hair also needs minerals, particularly iron, in order to grow. An iron deficiency can lead to hair loss in women. Taking an iron supplement can help immensely.
Over treating hair with chemicals, such as those found in some hair dyes and permanents or straighteners can cause hair loss in women. Hair will usually regrow if you stop using these chemicals. Certain hairstyles can also lead to thinning hair. Tight buns, braids, or cornrows put extra strain on the scalp. This can actually cause scarring on the scalp, and then hair cannot grow there anymore.
Thyroid disease can cause hair loss. Medical treatment to correct the hormonal imbalance caused by the thyroid disease will allow the hair to regrow.
Certain medications will also cause hair loss in women, such as the chemotherapy sometimes used to treat cancer. If you think your medication is causing you to lose your hair, talk to your doctor. Never stop taking medication without checking with your doctor first.
Hair loss treatment
Hair loss treatment is not necessary in many cases. If hair loss is due to pregnancy, it will usually regrow following childbirth. If it is due to anesthesia used during surgery, it will usually regrow on its own. If hair loss is due to a poor diet, improving the diet is often all the treatment that is needed. If you wish to speed the natural hair regrowth process, you can try a hair loss treatment.
If hair loss is due to a medical problem, such as thyroid problems, you will need to see a doctor to get medical treatment. Your hair may then regrow on its own. If not, you may want to try some hair loss treatments.
If your hair loss is due to the normal aging process there are several hair loss treatments you can try. There are topical treatments, such as Rogaine, which you apply to your scalp. There are also oral medications, such as Propecia. Both of these have been proven to help treat hair loss in women. If you are on any medications, talk to your doctor to make sure these treatments are safe for you.

5 Hair Loss Regrowth Tips To Allow You To Find The Right Treatment

Author: Jeff Schuman

Are you losing your hair and want to find a way to not only prevent it, but to also find a solution that will help you re-grow it? Then you need to be aware of some tips that will help you determine the best hair loss regrowth option for you to use.

The following are the tips that you need to know and use if you are serious about finding the best treatment.

One: Determine what the problem is caused by - You have to understand the cause of it before you will be able to find a good solution for the problem. There are many treatments that you won't be able to use until the cause is known.

Do your own homework on this subject, but also take time to consult your doctor because they can be a big help in determining the cause.

Two: Unrealistic claims for products shouldn't be made - If a treatment sounds like it is too good to be real; then it probably is. You want to avoid any solutions that tell you that your hair can be re-grown in a few days or weeks.

This is not possible, no matter what treatment you have chosen to use. It will take time to re-grow hair without causing further damage to it with quick fix solutions.

Three: Carefully evaluate every solution - You want to really evaluate the solutions that you find to determine if is going to just make your hair look better or if it will actually re-grow it.

Four: Analyze ingredients - You have to do this because you already have a problem with losing your hair, you don't want to cause other problems by putting something in your hair that will damage it even further.

Five: Vitamins, minerals and herbs - These are all important things to find in the solution that you choose because they can help prevent loss and help with re-growth. Your hair needs all of these things in order to be healthy, so choose carefully.

A few of the things that you want to keep an eye out for include:

- B-vitamins

- Biotin

- Zinc

- Magnesium

- Saw Palmetto

These are just some of the things that are good for your hair, but they shouldn't be the only ingredients in the solution that you choose.

Now that you know these vital tips to finding the best hair loss regrowth option for you to use; all that remains is to get started with your search. Be smart and get the advice of your doctor also because between you and the doctor, a solution can be easily found.

Understanding How Hair Grows

Author: Mike N Jones

Understanding How Hair Grows - The hair system is known as the pilosebaceous system.

It consists of four main parts:

1. Follicle - the hair canal 2. Papilla - the organ that feeds hair growth 3. Sebaceous Gland - the associated oil gland 4. Hair - shaft or structure which has hardened (keratinized)

Follicle A hair follicle is an indention in the skin.

The inside of each follicle therefore is much like the skin's surface being an inward fold into the skin with a mechanism for producing a hair.

The lower portion of the follicle has an expanded shape and is called the follicle bulb where there is an area of actively dividing cells called the hair matrix.

This is the source of hair production. The follicle and the hair it produces continue through repeated cycles of growth and rest.

Papilla At the base of the follicle lies a tiny structure made of skin-related cells called the dermal papilla which feeds the newly formed hair cells from its blood supply.

These newly formed hair cells grow continuously and die continuously, forming a hardened or keratinized structure - the hair shaft.

The hair shaft continues to grow outward from the follicle base.

Sebaceous Gland The sebaceous glands or oil glands are located close beneath the surface of the skin over the entire body.

There are a large number concentrated in the facial area. The oily material secreted is called sebum.

Sebum lubricates the hair shaft and the skin.

Hair The papillary region is often referred to as the "hair root," the portion which grows below the surface of the skin which is contained within the follicle canal.

The hair shaft is the portion of the hair that grows above the skin surface.

Generally speaking, two types of hair are produced by the follicle:

vellus terminal

Vellus hair is like "peach fuzz" and it is normally found on a woman's cheek or a young child. It is soft, downy and colorless. The follicles producing vellus hair are shallow, and the hair shaft produced is relatively short. Vellus hair is normal in women and is not treated with permanent hair removal techniques such as electrolysis.

Terminal hair is deeply rooted, coarse, and colored. Terminal hair begins as the peach fuzz type but later develops color and some degree of coarseness at which point it becomes the terminal type.

Terminal hair grows from the scalp, eyebrows, underarms, pubic area, and other parts of the body.

It is terminal hair which many people regard as unwanted and therefore try to remove from certain body areas.

Hair Split End Solution

Have you ever brushed your hair, only to see a stringy clump of it, left dangling from your brush? Or, have you tried to create styles that didn't turn out as good as you wanted, because your split ends were obvious? Do you wear your tresses in braids, only to see the breakage at the roots? These are examples of nagging problems and frustrations that many people encounter, mostly women, when they talk about their "locks". A visit to your local salon will get your ends clipped even, but as it grows, you notice that the split ends are appearing again.

There are so many versatile "do's" today, such as long, short, permed, relaxed, doobies, curls, french, pressed, celebrity, braids, dreadlocks, straight, wrap, or blow dry, to name a few. It is vital to keep the shampoo and conditioning regimen on a regular schedule, to remove sebum, or dandruff and particle buildup that occurs. By using your fingertips to gently massage your scalp, allows your pores to experience circulation and helps loosen that buildup, prior to shampooing. You should be mindful not to scratch your scalp with your fingernails, because this tends to irritate the scalp and, on occasion, causes painful cuts.

After shampooing and conditioning your hair, you apply your favorite "over the counter" product to your head, by putting a small amount into your hands, and rubbing your palms together. Your favorite product is recommended to contain enough nutrients, to penetrate the scales of the hair shaft, so while it is still wet, it will absorb the shaft's scales, and begin to replace any damaged cells, with new healthy cells. Your new stimulated growth will start to be stronger, healthier and you will notice a difference in the way your coif looks and feels! By continuing this simple but effective regimen, you will notice that your split ends will be reduced drastically, and your beautician will notice it also. Whether your texture is thin, medium, or coarse, you can attain the results you want, gradually, by applying these "tips"!

Warning: Do NOT take a Hair Loss Test Until You've Read This...

Author:  Dave Klein
You know the scene. You've got thinning hair, and you know youre suffering from hair loss...  But what on Earth can you do about it?  So you desperately start browsing the internet for a way to fix it, before its too late... Don't you just wish there was an easy quick-fix solution?  And then you come across a website offering... ...hair loss analysis tests...  Sound familiar? "Just send some strands of your thinning hair and we'll tell you exactly what type of hair loss you are suffering from, and then we'll recommend hair loss products to fight it"?  Of course they will. Why wouldn't they? In fact, some companies who manufacture their own hair loss products even offer to do the test for free. Wow! What a bargain! What do you think their answer will be, once they've "analyzed" your hair? How many emails do you think they write saying "I'm sorry. Extensive analysis of your thinning hair indicates that our product will not help you"?  Uh, No. They will tell you that your hair loss is the exact type that their product will "cure". And without it, you've got no hope...  Now please don't get me wrong...  There are some VERY valuable hair loss analysis tests. But chances, when you stumble across a hair loss test on the internet, its not one of the good ones... More than likely, you'll come across one of the popular tests. There's a huge difference between what's popular, and what's good...  But then again, most people never manage to do anything to help their baldness problem...  So how do you find the good tests?  Well, there are a few different types, and you have to do your research... In the meantime, be wary of any company that offers you a FREE hair-loss test...

Keep the Hair You Have by Lowering DHT Levels!

Author: Steven A Johnson

Losing hair is normal; it is part of the hair growth cycle. The growth phase lasts two to six years, and roughly 90% of the tresses on your head are in this phase. The other 10% of your locks are in a dormant phase that can last from two to six months. After the dormant phase comes to an end, the strands are then discarded.

The follicles then begin to grow new locks, during an average growth cycle much hair is shed or discarded. It is quite normal to loose fifty to one-hundred hairs everyday! This is no reason to be alarmed.

When thinning of your locks becomes noticeable, this is an indication of the beginnings of hair loss or balding. As it stands hair loss and balding are not life threatening conditions, however, many people experience emotional distress.

The most common causes of loss of locks are aging, heredity, thyroid imbalance, eating disorders, illness, pregnancy, or menopause, and prescription medications. Most people are familiar with the most common cause of hair loss, which is a hereditary condition. This is called androgenetic alopecia, and it is passed on through genetics.

Androgenetic alopecia occurs when follicles begin to shrink gradually over time, causing a shortening of the life cycle it goes through. As a result of the growth phase of the hair, the newer growth is shorter and thinner. This shortening and thinning of tresses continues until hair growth stops entirely. The important thing to remember is that thinning conditions are treatable! The idea is to keep the hair you have and strengthen the existing follicle.

One of the major hormones that cause loss of locks in men and women is DHT. DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone. DHT is caused by a reaction between the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase (which is found in the skin and scalp) and the hormone testosterone. DHT related balding is caused when DHT binds to receptor sites on the scalp and follicles. This binding of chemicals causes interruption and interaction of the normal chain of events that regulates normal, healthy, hair growth.

If this sounds complicated, lets put it a way that everyone can understand, DHT balding occurs when DHT takes control of the receptor cell. The receptor cell is located on the follicle which binds to DHT. When this bonding happens, false signals are sent to the cells whose job it is to maintain proper hair growth. The place that men lose their mane first is the temporal area; following is loss in the crown, and lastly, the top of the scalp. The concentration of sweat glands located in these regions cause heavy accumulation of DHT. In womens loss of their mane, it happens differently, they will usually experience diffusion of hair evenly throughout their scalp.

There are many procedures available to treat balding today. One of the keys to preventing hair loss is a healthy daily diet. A diet low in fat and high in fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables can have a major effect on stopping genetic and age related hair loss. In Asia where daily diets consist of vegetables, balding rarely occurs. Botanical nutrients may keep hair follicles from going dormant permanently.

Perhaps the easiest way to stop it is to notice the early stages of follicle dormancy. By taking action to treat thinning before balding occurs, you can strengthen the follicles to prevent further destruction by DHT. One way to treat thinning is by taking supplements that contain ingredients such as Saw Palmetto and Green Tea Extract. These all natural ingredients have been found to help maintain hair follicle health. One product that is designed to help block DHT is Hair RX, which contains a balanced blend of Saw Palmetto along with other important herbs to help you keep the hair you have and strengthen your follicles from the inside out!

Even people with thinning hair dream of having lush, thick and healthy locks to set off their complete look. For most people with thinning hair, though, all of their styling endeavors are met with frustration and a resulting style that falls short of the image that they had envisioned.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Thinning hair does not sentence you to a life of dull and unstylish tresses. In fact, there are several things that you can do to make your thinning hair look stunning. And the best part is that these thinning hair options won't take a great deal of your time or money either.  The first thing that you need to do to make your thinning hair look fabulous is to find the right stylist. Search for a stylist who has other clients with thinning hair and is fluent in all of the right styles and techniques to both protect thinning hair and make it look thicker than it really is. You can do this by asking for referrals from friends who also have thinning hair but always seem to look like they have just left the salon.  Once you have found the right stylist, together you can begin to examine your options for making your thinning hair appear thick again. Since there are many different ways to thicken up your locks, it is very important for you and your stylist to talk about each thinning hair option together so that you pick the right techniques that are perfect for you and your thinning hair.  Here are just a few of the ways that you can make your thinning hair appear lush and thick:  " Cut and texture. One of the best ways to conceal your thinning hair is to find a cut that adds a lot of texture and movement to your style while at the same time makes your hair appear thicker. Since long hair tends to draw the eye to the reality of thinning hair, shorter hairstyles are often your better bet. Choose styles with a lot of layers and textures ends that will create movement and interest to your thinning hair style. Adding texture through soft curl can also be a great way to make your thinning hair look its best.  " Color. Not only does color add more body and thickness to your thinning hair, it can also be used to draw the eye away from particularly thin spots. Using a combination of low-lights, high-lights and color accents, your stylist can do wonders for your thinning hair with a color brush.  " Products. There are a wide variety of products on the market that can be used to conceal thinning hair. Products such as thickening shampoos and conditioners can do a lot for thinning hair. Also be conscious of what types of styling products that you use on your thinning hair. Use lighter products such as mousses and pomades over heavy products like gel and spritzs.  As you can see, none of these thinning hair remedies are complicated or expensive. Simply by learning how to best style your thinning hair and learning to use the right products can do a great deal to make your hair look like it is both chic and thick.

How To Use Pictures Of Hair Styles To Find Your New Look

Author: Michael Barrows Most people choose their new hair style by looking at a picture of a hair style or browsing hair style photos. This can be a great way to find the perfect look, but there are some guidelines that you should keep in mind when looking at pictures of hair styles. Doing so can help you avoid hair disasters and guarantee that you come out looking like your chosen hairstyle picture.  You can find pictures of hair styles in style books and portfolios found at most salons, in fashion magazines, and in online hair style photo galleries. All of these ways can give you numerous ideas and a picture of hair style that you can carry with you to discuss your new style with your beautician. By seeing a picture of hair style, both you and your stylist can have a realistic expectation of what your new style will look like and how to achieve it.  Have you ever found the perfect hairstyle picture only to come out of the salon looking nothing like the woman in the picture? Most blame it on their stylist. While part of the blame can be put on the stylist for not pointing out your picture of hair style blunder, most often the blame lies with choosing the wrong hairstyle picture to compliment your face shape and hair texture.  A picture of hair style is a representation of what the woman in the hair style photo looks like with a particular style. You can not realistically expect to look like the picture of a hair style because you are not that woman; your hair and structure are different. But you can selectively choose your pictures of hair styles and eliminate the ones that would be disastrous for you by following a few pointers.  1. When browsing through pictures of hair styles, be sure to pay extra attention to the type and texture of hair that the lady in the hairstyle picture has. Is her hair coarse, thin, wavy, or straight? Try to find pictures of hair styles with hair types that closely resemble your own. Keep in mind that a picture of a hair style may look great with a particular model because she has thick and naturally curly hair, but the same hair style may not look so great on someone with thin, limp hair.  2. Often, pictures of hair styles are taken of models with perfect bone structures. It is very rare that you find a picture of hair style with a model trying to conceal a too-high hair line, prominent nose or under-developed chin. If you have features that you wish to highlight or diminish, pay special attention to the style in the picture of hair style. Would the style in the picture of hair style compliment your features or take away from them?  3. Use an interactive online photo gallery. You can upload your photo and use it to test how you might look with lots of different hair style photos. This is a great way to "try before you buy" to avoid expensive mistakes when you go to the salon. For a review of the best interactive online photo galleries, go to http://www.great-hairstyles.com/hair-article-resources.html.  Once you find a few hair style photos that you think are perfect for you, ask your stylist for her opinion on your chosen pictures of hair styles. He or she will be able to tell you without a doubt whether or not your selected hair style will be picture perfect for you.

How to Fix Common Hair Problems

Author: Brent McNutt

Hair problems can be a drag and ruin an otherwise great day. We all encounter hair problems at one point or another, luckily there are a number of ways we can eliminate or prevent these common hair nuisance. Below are some tips for fixing common hair problems.

Dandruff

Dandruff can be very annoying not to mention embarrassing. Dandruff is flakes of dead skin that disperses and falls off from the hair, making it noticeable or visible in a person's hair or on clothing. While the cause of dandruff is unknown, recent studies have suggested that it is caused by a type of fungus. While dandruff is not dangerous or contagious, it can be itchy and uncomfortable. To reduce dandruff flakes, you can use shampoos that are specially formulated to get rid of dandruff. Most of these shampoos contain zinc, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide or tars. When shampooing your hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo, massage your scalp gently for at least five minutes. Loosen the flakes with your fingers, but make sure to never scratch your scalp with your nails. Rinse your hair thoroughly after washing. If there is no over-the-counter anti-dandruff shampoo that works for you, you should see a doctor or hair specialist in urbane scrubs so that he or she can prescribe a liquid or lotion for your scalp.

Hair breakage

Hair strands can break when points in the hair weaken or thicken. Breakage can happen at any point of the hair, at the middle, near the scalp, or at the ends of the air. When hair breaks at the end, it is called split ends; the hair splits and can travel up to the shaft of the hair. Hair breakage is typically caused by the improper use of chemical hair treatments and the use of shampoos that contain strong chemicals. Using organic shampoo with organic and gentle ingredients can lessen hair breakage. Other major causes of breakage also include combing the hair too frequently or brushing and detangling the hair improperly. Using a wide-tooth comb and gently brushing the hair will help avoid breakage. Tight buns, braids, hair extensions, and other such elaborate hair styles can also cause the hair to break. Pulling it out on your own or leaving the hairstyle too long can cause hair and scalp damage or hair loss. In some cases, dry and brittle hair as well as hair loss can be a sign of poor nutrition or a medical condition such as hypothyroidism. Eat nutritious food packed with vitamins, minerals and proteins. If your hair is still breaking even if you take good care of it and eat healthy, you should see a doctor to determine if it is caused by a medical condition.

If your hair is breaking even though you don't treat it with chemicals or other styling products, see a doctor.

Hair Loss

We all lose some of our hair on a daily basis, typically when we shower or sleep. It is common to lose about 100 strands of hair a day; old hair fall out to be replaced with new and healthier hair. However, some people experience abnormal hair loss that thins the hair at a faster rate, which cannot be replaced naturally. This can caused baldness or bald patches. Abnormal hair loss, or alopecia, can be temporary or permanent. Some are caused by poor nutrition, a medical condition or is hereditary. You should consult your doctor if you are experiencing alopecia to determine its cause and if it can be treated.
